Before you conclude that you don't want to work for anyone, read this
for entrepreneurs and employees
You: I don't like to work under anyone. I want to be my own boss and be an employer of labours.
Me: Agreed. It is a good thing but I have some advice for you.
Spend the first few years working in an organization with structure especially if you can get one related to the business you wish to start.
Learn everything possible from there. Don't see yourself as an employee. See yourself as the CEO whose life depends on the progress of the organization.
Go the extra mile. Let every employee in the company think you are crazy.
If possible, try working in two or more organizations before venturing into yours.
This will give you the right playbook and courage you need.
I have been researching the secrets of great CEOs and this is one thing that is common among many of them except those that inherited a family business.
Find a reputable organization and work there. Please do!
But
Wait! Don't go yet
If you want to thread the corporate world, continue reading
By corporate world, i mean you love 9 - 5 jobs and you wish to stay there for as long as you want.
For sure, not everyone will be an entrepreneur. Some people will rise the corporate ladder to even become a manager, or appointed CEO.
Some of you will be intrapreneurs.
Who is an intrapreneur?
Well, an intrapreneur is simply an entrepreneur in an organization.
In a company like Paystack, you can be an employee there, yet you are the brain behind the innovation of new products in the company.
So here is what I was about to say
It is possible to have a secured job that is paying very well. Yes it is
I have these 5 steps you should follow to harness this
Become extremely valuable
I have heard of stories where employers do everything possible to satisfy some set of employees because they are brain boxes and extremely useful to the growth of the company.
While some employees are fighting for ways not to get laid off, some are the boss and they work on their terms
How come
It all depends on what you bring to the table and how well you take your personal branding.
Work towards becoming extremely valuable.
2. Always upgrade your capabilities
The better you become in something, the valuable you are.
Can someone ever get to the peak?
I'm not sure
Prioritize jobs that will help you get better.
3. Activate your intrapreneurship mind
I have also heard stories of people who are doing very well at their job, yet, they weren't promoted to lead a bigger team.
Why?
That you are good at what you don't qualify you to lead a bigger team outside your skills. Being the best product designer shouldn't qualify you to be the Chief technical officer (CTO).
You need extra skills and capabilities to be a CEO or something more in that company.
Dust up your intrapreneurship and leadership skills and refine them.
Leadership has its own skill requirements.
In a nutshell, don't just be good at what you do, learn what it takes to lead and start working your way up even when you are the lowest-ranked employee at the moment.
4. Build your experience across boards
Playing football on that small pitch might be one of the reasons you are the best in your street.
Why not try the champions league and then Seria A and then the next just like Ronaldo?
A footballer is expected to play the same football with his two legs but the conditions are not always the same in all kinds of leagues.
For those who don't understand, what I am saying is that you should use your skills or professions across several conditions instead of just one.
Lastly,
5. Plan your financial freedom strategy
There's a time to work and be very hyper-productive and there is a time it won't be that way.
The moment you start to earn, develop a saving and investment culture. And your goal for this is to get to financial freedom before your retirement age.
In fact, set your retirement age and work towards it.
Who said you can't retire when you are 40?
It all depends on you!
See you at the top
The end
Cheers Distinct
