I am not sure I should be writing this…
In my previous letter, I talked about how finding passion has helped me find a career path, happiness, and streams of income and drive away loneliness. Right?
But guess what
I couldn’t write this continuation last week because I was DOWN.
I was emotionally, mentally, and financially drained and not even my passion could help me. I was also a little bit under the weather.
It took me exactly one week before I could get up to get back to everything I love doing. I couldn’t write; I couldn’t work; I was eating and sleeping too much; I couldn’t concentrate while praying.
I was working but I was not hyperactive. I was struggling.
It felt as if I was wasting away and that I was wasting my talent. I began to compare myself with my friends who are doing better. I remember I was more brilliant than them. I love them and always pray for them but one unavoidable part of me is always jealous - I always do my best to shut that up though.
Yes! I was lonely.
I faced the same thing I thought I had conquered.
This is me saying…
Life is not a straight line. It is not even a regular shape.
Life!
Life!
Life just happens
I was listening to a podcast about the story of the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella recently. His life was going smoothly; he found passion in software engineering and cricket; moved to the US to further his career; joined Microsoft; married the love of his life in India; found a way to make his wife join him in the US after several rejections. And then, his wife got pregnant.
Beautiful life. Right?
Well…
His first child came out as a child that will always need his parent’s support for the rest of his life - cerebral palsy is the condition.
This changed the trajectory of Satya’s life. Today, he is the CEO of Microsoft. An immigrant from India became the CEO of a trillion dollars company in the US?
Life happens for a reason
Everything he has gone through helped him to become the CEO.
Yes! Everything
He is known to be an empathetic leader and this he learned because of his first child - he cares so much about how to make his first child live the best life. He innovated and worked with passion because, in his mind, he is helping his child and every other person that depends on what comes out of Microsoft.
He helped Microsoft when it seems as if the company has gotten to its peak and the next stage is to fall. He did it because he cared more about what the customers wanted.
This is what it looks like when you choose to make life meaningful
For me,
If I hadn’t gone through what I experienced a week ago, I wouldn’t be sharing this with you.
In fact, this same week helped me to think about how to change the trajectory of my life. It pushed me to rethink my career path. I got the message. I got something out of it.
In summary, finding your passion, building your dream career, and having a successful life is not immune to life happening sometimes. Challenges help you to reinforce your passion and sharpen it.
Don’t pray for a life devoid of challenges. Rather, pray for challenges that will push you to the next level.
Alright?
Talking about passion
I promise to show you how to find passion and monetize it.
But seriously speaking, there is little I can do to help you discover your passion.
90% of the work will come from you. What you are looking for is within you.
Another thing is…
Anything you find as your passion is still going to be raw and very limited compared to what the future holds. So, you have to continually develop and nurture it until it becomes mature.
I discovered my passion for writing but I never knew it will become the backbone of a career community. Though I have a plan for tomorrow, I am always open to change as long as the story of my life gets better doing it and I feel convinced about it.
Lastly, before I take you through some steps
Don’t limit your mind to some set of things as what your passion should be. It can be anything and you can get to experience it anywhere. I study construction in school and I was able to infuse my passion into it.
Don’t limit your passion. Explore it in a different field. Alright?
Let’s begin the process
I hope you will be able to find a very silent place or maybe at midnight to, do this. Make yourself comfortable because you are about to go on a journey
Take a walk back into the early years of your life. Rewind your life slowly and focus on these questions.
What time in your life have you felt most creative?
What memory of the past makes you feel proud of yourself or makes you feel good?
What do you have an addiction to learning more about?
What do you like talking about that makes you lose track of time?
What are some childhood interests or dreams you never were able to explore fully but still find intriguing?
When last did you do a task for long and what was it?
What are those things you enjoyed spending your leisure/holiday doing?
Is there anyone in your present/past life or work that inspires you- why?
You might not know the gravity of these questions until you have truly tried to answer them genuinely. Aside from helping you find a pattern to discover your passion, it will bring good memories of how you have really done well-living life. It is a good place to go all the time - if possible.
Do you remember how you rewind a movie/novel you have watched/read several times just to see/read a certain interesting part of it?
This is what it feels like.
There is more to this process but it is not free. I can take you through the whole career clarity / Passion discovery process for a discount of N3,000 if you wish to have the full experience.
It is going to be a one-on-one live session and you will love it. Send a message on WhatsApp if you are interested. Please, I can only do this for 7 people.
In my next letter, I will tell you how to monetize one’s passion
Cheers
